I HAS A SHOW!!! @ 08:05 pm

Current Music: The Rat - Dead Confederate

2009 wasn't getting off to a good start, especially since our cash is tight, so we have two rules: 1) no expensive shows and 2) no shows that require an overnight stay (with an exception made for Voodoo Music Experience later this year and, um, any Black Rebel Motorcycle Club dates that are within five hours or so of us—just try and keep me away from BRMC!!!!).

However, I just happened to check Dead Confederate's MySpace, looking to hear the new track they uploaded—and there was a date listed for Chattanooga, TN! Not only that, but it's a Friday night, so no worries about having to get up for work the next morning, and tickets are only $13, and they're playing with The Features, who Mark and I saw open for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Kings of Leon* in Knoxville in October 2007. We'd enjoyed them, but after the show forgot about them. Now we can enjoy them all over again! (And I just bought a couple of their CDs, so no forgetting them this time.)

So that's our only show on the schedule for 2009. What shows do you guys have going on so far?

(*We didn't actually see Kings of Leon, though. It was a last-minute show and Mark had be someplace early the next day. KoL didn't come on till after midnight, so I'm glad we didn't even try to stay for them. We did, however, score front row tickets on eBay, and on our way out, we gave them to a couple who were sitting in the very last row.)

Yay! That's awesome, and somehow it just makes life that much easier to take when you've got a show to look forward to! And your show isn't that far away (date-wise; geographically I'm an idiot, so I'm not sure how far Chattanooga is from you.)

I've got nothing definite planned in the way of major acts, with the possible exception of Voodoo Music Fest if we do RockficCon in conjunction with that. And part of it, this time of year, is the weather.

However, I am planning on a local band at a local bar next Friday. In my fruitless searching for last Friday, I found a good one, I think. New band to me, but some great songs they play: Mother Load.

::counting blessings again at the plethora of live music opportunites available in Colorado Springs::

And thank you for the community pimp, I'd love to gain more members!

It's about three and a half hours. Wouldn't be doable on a weeknight, but we can swing it on a Friday (it helps that the show starts at 10pm, so we don't have to cut out of work at lunchtime).

I need to check out local bands more in the Johnson City area, now that the holidays are out of the way.

(I so hope we can combine RockficCon and VoodooFest. There's no one I'd rather see live music with than Rockfickers. :) (Aside from Mark, of course.)

John (Batdorf) (http://www.myspace.com/johnbatdorf) is in the midst of making a new CD and not far enough along yet where I can go have a listen (I heard the basics of the songs at the last Folk Alliance conference in NY in early November) and no shows in sight. Except, as a friendly payback for allowing James Lee Stanley (http://www.jamesleestanley.com) to play a few songs at his last house concert (about a month ago)(from which James immediately got booked for his own show at this place later this year), James asked John to play a few songs at his next Los Angeles area show on January 24th. John isn't really announcing this show to any of his fans (cause it's not his show) but he told me about it so I could get my John Batdorf live-music fix.

The NEXT show I go to probably won't be till mid-March in New Mexico IF I can get the weekend off and go visit friends in the area. I booked the show for John and hopefully can book at least one more in NM for him to round out his weekend. The plan is to see the shows, hang with friends I don't see often at all, and get my blue rose tattoo (that Kelpie is creating for me) because I know CJ (NM friend) has access to people who do good tattoo.

After that I plan to see Kenny Edwards at Boney Mountain (House Concert) in April.

The BIG bummer was not being able to get the Folk Alliance weekend off in mid-February where I would get to hear all kinds of the best of the best acoustic music IN MY OWN showcase room for three days. I had some awesome people lined up to play and that was shot down by the fact that my company has been bought and all managers are store-bound till May. I DO have permission for the weekend in March but just barely....

Long story short, my next fix is Friday January 24th. It won't be a whole show but I've gone to shows of his in the past and gotten a lot less - but with John, anything is awesome.

So far this year I'm not doing too badly at all! Here is my list so far:

31st Jan - Cobra Starship in Leeds (teeeeeeeny venue, this should be hilarious!)
25th Feb - Metallica in Sheffield
2nd March - Metallica at the o2 in London
6th March - Fall Out Boy at the o2 (just booked, my friend really wants to go and I thought 'Why not?'
25th March - Metallica in Birmingham

Not sure what else will present itself as so far none of my bands have announced a tour. Although there were rumours of a Faith No More reunion which I would kill to get tickets for!
