Another Option @ 03:15 pm

Current Location: home
Current Mood: satisfied satisfied
Current Music: Zico Chain - More Than Life demo

OK. Although I eventually was able to scramble and locate a couple of gigs that would have been acceptable to see to get my live music fix, the weather ended up bolluxing those plans. No venturing out to a gig last night. Too cold. Too snowy. Ick.

(Staying home and vegging out with the furkids was not a bad option, but did not quell my need for a live music fix.)

So. Tonight we'll go to plan B.

Is it live, or is it Memorex?

Yeah - I can *always* watch concert dvds. Taped live music, but it's a good surrogate fix.

But I'm going that option one better tonight.

I'm going to watch a live webcast tonight, from Kulak's Woodshed in North Hollywood, California.

Tonight, starting at 8 PM Pacific time, there will be some new (to me) musicians, and also James Hurley. Although Kulak's Woodshed is mostly a bit calmer than hard rock or classic rock or metal, the mostly acoustic sounds are enjoyable as a change. (And, any port in a storm when one needs a fix...)

So there's another option open to us live music fans when there is nothing available locally - search for a live webcast. Kulak's Woodshed is one I'm familiar with because of friends in California; I'm sure there are others out there.

Got any webcasts to recommend?

All the best to all live music fans for a great weekend, whether or not you get to see live music.

there's a coffeehouse in Florida that does a live webcast - I can't remember their name but they're on myspace. I'll try and remember to look them up next time I'm in there.

Charlotte's Web in Illinois doesn't have a live webcast but they DO film all of their shows and then sell them on the web afterwards.

A new(ish) LA show called Acoustic LA Live *JUST* (like today) found someone to do a live webcast feed for them. Not sure when it's going to go into wide feed but I'll keep you up-to-date as I know about it. They wanted me to "test" it but I work nights so that's difficult.

Can't think of any others off the top of my head but I'll make a mental note to remember to tell you when and if I come across others in my internet music research travels.....

On January 21st, there's going to be a live webcast of an Of Montreal and CasioKids: http://www.pollstar.com/blogs/news/archive/2009/01/18/644173.aspx

I might check it out; I think Of Montreal is coming to Asheville fairly soon. Strike that - I think they've already been and I missed them. Whoops.
