I love Leon @ 11:27 am

Current Location: home
Current Mood: happy anticipatory
Current Music: Leon Russell - Tight Rope

I'm seeing Leon Russell tonight!Collapse )

Looking forward to seeing Leon's songs, such as "A Song For You", "Tightrope", "Lady Blue" and many others. It should be a great show with Steele Daniels Louis and Hall opening, and I love Stargazers Theater. It's a great place for a show and has good food and friendly people.

It's Memorex! @ 11:13 pm

The webcasts aren't live, but www.moshcam.com does have a buttload of concerts available to stream for free. I found out about the site because they recently put a Spriritualized ( <3 <3 <3 ) show up. Some sweet features on the site: you can click any song in the setlist to jump to it, and you can browse the list of gigs in one column while the show you're currently watching plays alongside the list. Haha--I watched Spiritualized, then Brian Jonestown Massacre, and now I'm watching Public Enemy.

Another live music resource - iLike @ 05:16 pm

Current Music: Burn - Nine Inch Nails

If you use iLike or Facebook with the iLike application, you can use them to look for concerts in your area. I particularly like the "Browse By Day" option. I was amazed at how many venues (particularly small clubs) they included in my area.

I HAS A SHOW!!! @ 08:05 pm

Current Music: The Rat - Dead Confederate

2009 wasn't getting off to a good start, especially since our cash is tight, so we have two rules: 1) no expensive shows and 2) no shows that require an overnight stay (with an exception made for Voodoo Music Experience later this year and, um, any Black Rebel Motorcycle Club dates that are within five hours or so of us—just try and keep me away from BRMC!!!!).

However, I just happened to check Dead Confederate's MySpace, looking to hear the new track they uploaded—and there was a date listed for Chattanooga, TN! Not only that, but it's a Friday night, so no worries about having to get up for work the next morning, and tickets are only $13, and they're playing with The Features, who Mark and I saw open for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Kings of Leon* in Knoxville in October 2007. We'd enjoyed them, but after the show forgot about them. Now we can enjoy them all over again! (And I just bought a couple of their CDs, so no forgetting them this time.)

So that's our only show on the schedule for 2009. What shows do you guys have going on so far?

(*We didn't actually see Kings of Leon, though. It was a last-minute show and Mark had be someplace early the next day. KoL didn't come on till after midnight, so I'm glad we didn't even try to stay for them. We did, however, score front row tickets on eBay, and on our way out, we gave them to a couple who were sitting in the very last row.)

Top ten reasons why live shows are better than sex @ 12:36 pm

1. You don't get pregnant
2. Or STDs
3. It doesn't matter if you have your period
4. You can do it with strangers (lots of strangers) (lots and lots and lots of strangers)
5. You'll still have your self-respect in the morning
6. There's merch!
7. And just about always an encore
8. You don't have to get undressed (though some people do...)
9. The hot guys in the band are doing it with you
10. Your f-list doesn't defriend you when you start posting videos of your fantastic nights

(P.S. This community's a great idea, kelpie!!!)
